In order to reduce the amount of spam received by our users, ICR has implemented a product called DSPAM.
DSPAM works by taging each email with a token that identifys characteristics of the email.
When trained DSPAM is able to recognise trends which spammers follow, and can take automatic action against the offending email.
Emails that are blocked at the ICR server, are available to be viewed via a web interface. From this web interface access of the quarantine, users are able to remove old spam, and retrain/deliver false-positives.
Summary of USER options:- When a spam message is received, in order to train the DSPAM engine, this individual message needs to be forwarded to 'spam-myusername@icr.com.au'. ie. if you username is billybloggs@icr.com.au, the mail needs to be sent to spam-billybloggs@icr.com.au.
- If there is a higher than usual volume of spam, the webmail interface could be used, and spam email could be moved to a folder named 'spam'. This folder will be automatically scanned and actioned by the email server.
- In extreme cases, we can 'pre-feed' the dspam engine with a generic set of training data. However, this may lead to many initial false-positives that require retraining.
- The web access to the quarantine can be accessed from the icon on the user.icr.com.au page, or directly at http://dspam.icr.com.au/ (user your username/password to authorise the web login).
- Within the dspam web interface, select quarantine to access the quarantine data. When actioning any of the emails, please only select a small number at a time, as by selecting more, can sometimes lead to browser issues.
